11 Great Open Sources For Multimedia Tools

As you know ... multimedia files like photo, audio, video is a part of you as a photographer, film maker, audiographer, graphic designer, musicians, even developers.

There are many softwares or applications as a multimedia editor that can be used. But whether they are suits to your needs?

In this post, I will invite you to visit some open source communities. I think, these communities really relevant and comprehensive in providing what is your needs.

Well, here are :

1. OpenOffice

OpenOffice is a fully loaded software suite that contains all the functionality of Microsoft Office - Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and more.

2. SourceForge

SourceForge is a community for download, develop, and publish all free open source softwares. You can find all open source multimedia tools in there like graphics, audio & video editor, games.

3. Processing

Processing is an open source programming language and environment for people who want to create images, animations, and interactions. Initially developed to serve as a software sketchbook and to teach fundamentals of computer programming within a visual context, Processing also has evolved into a tool for generating finished professional work. Today, there are tens of thousands of students, artists, designers, researchers, and hobbyists who use Processing for learning, prototyping, and production.

4. GIMP

GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed piece of software for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring.

5. Blender

Blender is the free open source 3D content creation suite ( creating 3D environments, images, backgrounds, animations and games). Available for all major operating systems under the GNU General Public License.

6. Scribus

Scribus is an Open Source program that brings professional page layout to Linux/UNIX, Mac OS X, OS/2 Warp 4/eComStation and Windows desktops with a combination of press-ready output and new approaches to page design. Underneath a modern and user-friendly interface, Scribus supports professional publishing features, such as color separations, CMYK and Spot Color support, ICC color management, and versatile PDF creation.

7. GimpShop

GimpShop is a modification of the FREE Open Source GNU Image Manipulation Program intended to replicate the feel of Adobe Photoshop.

8. Ardour

Ardour is a multichannel digital audio workstation. Ardour is available for OS X (Tiger/Leopard/Snow Leopard/Lion) and Linux.

9. Inkscape

An Open Source vector graphics editor, with capabilities similar to Illustrator, CorelDraw, or Xara X, using the W3C standard Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) file format.

10. Synfig

Synfig Studio is a free and open-source 2D animation software, designed as powerful industrial-strength solution for creating film-quality animation using a vector and bitmap artwork.

11. FlashDevelop

FlashDevelop for flash developers. FlashDevelop offers first class support for ActionScript (2 & 3) and HaXe development. Great completion & code generation, projects compilation & debugging, plenty of project templates, SWF/SWC exploration etc. FlashDevelop is also a great web developer IDE with source-control support (svn, git, mercurial), tasks/todo, snippets, XML/HTML completion and zen-coding for HTML.
